Leading With Integrity Foundation (LWI) wishes you a Happy New Year. May all goodness and abundance from the Most High be bestowed upon you. Curaçao will remember 2026 with special fondness. Because, for the first time, a country with only 156,000 inhabitants will participate in the FIFA World Cup, the smallest country ever. LWI doesn’t see this merely as a sports event. To us, it is a sign for the country of Curaçao. Why?
Curaçao faces many divisions: politics, labor unions, the medical community, and even the Church. So, the question is: how did the Blue Wave achieve such an exceptional performance? It was because of unity.
Success in sports isn’t just about techniques and skills; team spirit is essential. Every player knows that it doesn’t matter who scores as long as the team wins. But it’s not just the team’s vision that counts: the entire island united in one spirit on the night of the decisive game, providing immense support for our team. That night, all our differences were put aside to focus on one goal: qualifying for the World Cup.
Why don’t we work together in other areas of life when it benefits Curaçao? Pursuing unity doesn't mean seeking equality. We will have different opinions, thoughts, and tastes. The key to achieving unity is to value harmony. Because harmony doesn’t aim to eliminate differences but to utilize them. The beauty of a field is revealed through the various colors of flowers. The beauty of a musical masterpiece is found in the different tones that create chords.
Having more than one labor union in a sector or more than one church on a street doesn't necessarily mean division. Instead, it can be seen as offering more “flavors” for the seeker to choose from. By embracing these differences, we can still focus on a higher goal that benefits everyone.
In LWI’s view, the Blue Wave symbolizes our potential. Combining our efforts and talents for the common good will bring more blessings to our country than fighting each other or trying to outdo our fellow citizens. May the year 2026 and our participation in the World Cup serve as catalysts for changing our mindsets.
