We are at the beginning of a new year, and once again, Leading With Integrity wishes you a very fruitful year with meaningful outcomes for your plans. A new year may be seen as a new opportunity. Undoubtedly, some dreams have not come true in 2024 but you have another opportunity to accomplish them in this new year.
What do we mean when we mention a new opportunity? Usually, we don’t focus on this trivial word new. So, let’s analyze it briefly. New can be used in the sense of new in time, like a new neighbor or a new car. New can also be used to contrast it with the old, like new shoes and clothes.
What if we embraced a new way of life—one centered on a deeper understanding of integrity? You've likely heard C.S. Lewis’ statement: “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” But integrity isn’t just about rule-following; it has a much deeper meaning.
To truly grasp this, we need a shift in perspective. Breaching integrity isn’t just breaking rules—it’s an act that goes against the essence of life itself. It undermines our shared purpose of serving and promoting the well-being of others. Without adopting the view that we are here to uplift and support one another, integrity will continue to feel like a 'restriction of freedom.'
Since its foundation, LWI has promoted integrity as an inner quality, not just a behavior. You can force a particular behavior on people by using rules, sanctions, and other instruments to scare them. However, an inner quality has to be cultivated through sound teaching, which creates new convictions in people’s hearts.
LWI will go on promoting intrinsic integrity in 2025 through its Newsletters, School of Integrity, books, workshops, and last but not least, its annual conferences. Don’t be satisfied by just adhering to the rules. Focusing on pursuing intrinsic integrity can take a whole new meaning. And you’ve got a partner in LWI.
