A different policy approach

English version (Pa papiamentu skrol bai mas abou)

LWI Newsletter – A different policy approach

“Policies are many, principles are few. Policies will change, principles never do.” – John Maxwell (leadership expert, best-selling author)

In our last three editions, we have been laying a foundation for understanding the theme of our upcoming integrity conference, which will take place on October 3, 2025, in the Sandals Resort Curaçao.

At every past conference, we have attempted to clarify a specific aspect of the concept of integrity to prevent confusion when using this term. In the upcoming conference, however, we want to share some seeds for building an effective integrity policy. The government has taken specific steps to instill this attitude in all public officers, but we believe that some essential policy aspects cannot be overlooked; otherwise, this will not yield the desired results. For example,

  • The current integrity policy mostly focuses on punishment. The penalties might help prevent problems, but whether that’s really true is still being debated.
  • Prisons don’t have a clear or consistent program to help people rehabilitate in this area.
  • The current integrity policy ignores integrity issues that aren’t crimes. In other words, if something isn’t covered by criminal law, it’s not really addressed. (See LWI’s Integrity Conference 2022).

Not only the government. The private sector can also benefit from this new approach, as it is based on a proven worldview: the Judeo-Christian worldview.

Nobody wants to replace a football player in a team that has proven he can score many goals. You might not like his character or his skin color, but what matters is whether he can help you reach your purpose. The same is true for the worldview that has largely contributed to the present stage of scientific and technological development.

For a long time, LWI has been pondering this question: Why can’t we use the same worldview to design an integrity policy that truly bears fruit? We have come to the conclusion that it is indeed possible. Usually, people are a little bit resistant when they have to try a new approach. They would rather close their ears or walk away because they have been challenged to move from their comfort zone.

At LWI, we understand that. In the upcoming conference, we will take great care in building the argument for a new approach in a meticulous manner. We have also scheduled moments for interactions with the speakers, allowing us to address any disturbing questions that may arise.

As a valued subscriber to our Newsletter, we encourage you to participate in this conference, as it could be a turning point in our country's integrity policy. And you should be part of it. For any questions, you can always email us at info@lwi-foundation.org.

LWI Newsletter – Un aserkamentu di maneho diferente

“Tin hopi tipo di maneho, tin poko prinsipio. Manehonan lo kambia, prinsipionan nunka ta kambia.” – John Maxwell (eksperto di liderazgo, outor ku mas benta)

  • E maneho aktual di integridat ta enfoká mas tantu riba kastigu. Kastigu kisas por yuda evitá problema pero si esei ta sosedé bèrdè, ta punto di diskushon te ainda.
  • Prizòn no tin un programa kla i konsistente pa yuda hende rehabilitá den e área aki.
  • E maneho aktual di integridat ta ignorá fayonan di integridat ku no ta krímen. Ku otro palabra, si algu no ta reglá den lei penal, e no ta haña atenshon realmente. (Wak LWI su Konferensia di Integridat 2022).

No gobièrnu so.

Mésun kos ta konta pa e ‘worldview’ ku a kontribuí en grande na e etapa aktual di desaroyo sientífiko i teknológiko.

Normalmente, hende ta un poko resistente ora nan tin ku purba un aserkamentu nobo. Nan ta preferá di sera nan orea òf bai laga bo pasobra nan a wòrdu retá pa sali for di nan komfortabilidat.
