Integrity & Worldview: The Heart of Morality

ENGLISH (Pa papiamentu skrol bai mas abou)

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.” – Helen Keller.

Welcome to our third edition on the fundamental principles of integrity policy. In our previous edition, we highlighted that incorporating morality into integrity policy is not about religion but rather about our worldview. We concluded that newsletter by mentioning we would explore worldviews in this edition.

What is a worldview? Worldview can be defined as a set of beliefs, values, and assumptions that shape how an individual interprets and interacts with the world. It’s like a lens through which people view reality, guiding their perceptions, decisions, and behavior. A worldview can be influenced by culture, personal experiences, education, spirituality and social context. However, since integrity is a moral issue, we would like to elaborate for a moment on the spiritual aspects of our worldviews. '

In this analysis, we then face four basic questions. These are:

1. Where do I come from?

2. What is my purpose in life?

3. How should I live? What is good, and what is evil?

4. What happens to me after death?

Answering these questions from a purely physical or scientific perspective often falls short because these questions touch on aspects of human experience that science alone may not fully address. While science can explain the "how" of existence—such as the workings of the brain—it often lacks tools to address the "why" questions that give life meaning, purpose, and moral direction. Sooner or later, you will be compelled to take a standpoint as to the existence of the spiritual realm.

For example, how do you define integrity? (Question 3).

When exploring possible answers to these four questions, we can broadly categorize three different perspectives regarding the existence of god(s):

  • Those who believe everything is divine or that everything is God.
  • Those who believe that God does not exist.
  • Those who believe in a single Creator of all things.

Each of these perspectives will lead to different answers to the four questions mentioned earlier. While everyone is free to believe as they choose and build their lives on that foundation, LWI stands by the belief in a Creator of all things. This belief is more than a selection among the three views—it’s grounded in specific reasons. In our next edition, we’ll present some facts that support this belief.

In the meantime, we want to emphasize that breaches of integrity are moral issues, and any policy you can implement to solve them is deeply connected to your worldview.

PAPIAMENTU

“E kosnan mihó i di mas bunita den mundu no por wòrdu mirá ni toká – bo mester sinti nan ku bo kurason.” – Helen Keller.

Ta manera un lèns dor di kua hende ta mira realidat loke ta duna direkshon na nan persepshonnan, desishonnan i komportashon.

1. Di unda mi ta bin?

2. Kiko ta mi propósito den bida?

3. Kon mi tin ku biba? Kiko ta bon i kiko ta malu?

4. Kiko ta pasa ku mi despues di morto?

Kontesta riba e preguntanan aki fo’i un perspektiva puru físiko òf sientífiko hopi bia ta kai chikí pasobra e preguntanan aki ta toka aspektonan di eksperensia humano ku siensia so no por splika.

  • Esnan ku ta kere ku tur kos ta dios.
  • Esnan ku ta kere ku no tin dios.

Entretrantu nos ke enfatisá ku infrakshonnan di integridat ta asuntunan moral i kualke maneho pa solushoná nan, ta profundamente konektá na bo ‘worldview’.
